  • Anyone else having trouble obtaining the old firmware images for older models like C10LE and 3100’s? I called Dell and spent 2 hours on the phone, and the final answer I got was an “I’ll email you the download links later”, and still have not received the links a day later. They even did a WebEx to show me firmware in my Digital Locker from our support contract, but as I pointed out, nothing that old is in Digital Locker, and I even showed them the Dell documentation that says upgrade to 8.0_512 before proceeding any further. So frustrating!

This is really frustrating. Generally the Dell support should be able to hand this out.
Where in the world are you located?

I’m on hold with Dell right now seeking the same thing. I have a fleet of C10LEs running 7.1 and want to get them up to 8.3, but of course need 8.0_512 to get there. If you have any luck, please let me know, and I will do the same.

    —EDIT—

I got the same answer, they needed to check internally and reply via email.

Good news. I hope I am able to get the same result. You can contact me offline via Gmail, if you like. My username is the same as on this forum.

After looping in the Dell service lead you mentioned, I was able to get the firmware I was seeking. Thanks a lot!

I have the exact same issue, I need 8.0_512. Any way you can help me out as well? I can send you my contact info.

Can you share the Dell contact with me also. I’m also looking to upgrade my clients, but do not see the 8.0_512 version in the Digital Locker. My username is my yahoo email email address.

Remember, do NOT share any firmware or I have to ban you from this forum.

A quick and easy way to re-image a Dell Wyse thin client, especially Windows 10 IoT/Embedded devices, is to use the Wyse USB Firmware Tool. The tool is also used to re-image other models of Dell Wyse thin clients as well but not as often.

You can download the free Wyse USB Firmware Tool here. You will also need to download the firmware image you want to re-load back onto the thin client. You can access the images you need directly from the Dell support site here. You will also need a USB drive to copy the image onto which you will then put into the device you want to re-image.

Folder name wyse and under wyse create another folder and name it wnos. By now you should have a directory structure that reads: C: inetpub ftproot wyse wnos 2. Get the Firmware. The firmware files provided by Wyse, normally come in the form of a compressed self-extracting (.EXE) or Zipped (.ZIP) file. The firmware files must. Try to change things in the firmware. First of all, we downloaded firmware upgrade/addon images from WYSE to see if they make any sense. The file format was quite easy to reverse-engineer, actually. There's a tool available for download on this site to read them. Here you can see part of a file listing of such an image. View and Download Wyse C10LE brochure & specs online. Wyse C10LE: Product Brochure. C10LE server pdf manual download. Also for: C30le, C50le, C90le, C90lew, C00le.

I want to put the 6.3 version of the firmware on the one that have 6.2. I've found the Wyse USB Firmware tool 1.10 and I had no problems to make a copy of the firmware. Now I want to update (push) the firmware and when I follow the procedure in the guide and on the software, it ask me to select a RSP or ID2 file. Includes the Dell Wyse thin client desktop C10LE, the Dell Wyse thin client desktop 3010-T10, the Dell Wyse thin client desktop 3012-T10D, the Dell Wyse thin client desktop 5012-D10D and the Dell Wyse 5212 all-in-one thin client. The process is outlined in the user guide that you get with the download but it follows these basic steps: (Listed in great detail in official KB article here)

Dell wyse firmware download
  1. Download the firmware you want to use for the re-imaging process from above.
  2. Download the USB Firmware Tool as noted above and launch as an administrator. Be sure to launch as admin as you will get errors if not.
  3. Follow the steps on the screen from the tool to browse to the image you want to load onto the USB key. Note: Once the image is loading onto the tool it will sometimes appear to hang for a few minutes when it’s actually copying the image onto the key so just an FYI.
  4. Once the image is on the key you will then place the key into the device you want to image, hold down the ‘P’ key at reboot and once prompted you will select the USB key to start the imaging. Note: if you don’t see the USB key when booting from USB then it’s likely disabled in the BIOS. Hold down ‘delete’ key during boot-up to enter BIOS. BIOS password is ‘Fireport’ (capital ‘F’). You should see USB located under boot options and set to enable then after reboot you should USB key in BIOS.

** NOTE ** The USB key must show up as “Removable Disk” or “Removable Media” in Windows Explorer in order for the tool to see the USB drive properly. Some newer keys show up as “Local Disk” and by design, the tool will NOT attempt to use this and you’ll see error “Failed to read drive information. Verify if USB Drive is connected to the system and try again”. The solution is to try another drive and see if it shows up as “Removable Disk”vs “Local Disk” as when you buy the drives they don’t indicate this information so you often need to try a few USB keys to see what works.

This is the error you will see if the drive is not recognized because it appears as “Local Disk” in Windows Explorer: “Failed to read drive information. Verify if USB Drive is connected to the system and try again”.

Be sure to follow the steps outlined in the user guide that’s included with the download as it will contain helpful troubleshooting information as well.
